About Lisa Littin (founder)
Lisa has always had a strong desire to help others, a can do attitude and a belief that all problems can be solved.
After graduating from the University of Texas with a degree in Architectural Engineering, Lisa’s drive for problem solving in the workplace led her to get involved in business information systems. She went back to school to get a Master’s in Information Systems from George Washington University. Shortly after graduation, Lisa’s husband’s career led the newly married couple to move to Vietnam and embark on what would end up being a 14 year, 4 country, 6 home, 9 temporary home, eye-opening international-travel filled journey.
It was while Lisa was living in Rolle, Switzerland and on vacation in Lesvos, Greece that the spark of the idea for HelpGoat originated. While on an amazingly scenic car ride along the coast, Lisa experienced a profound sense of appreciation for life. Her thoughts wandered and she began to question how she got to be living this life from her humble and somewhat delinquent beginnings, what had helped her get to where she was now and how she could help people less fortunate than her.
She concluded that “help” could sometimes feel like judgement and that it was feelings of connection with others, opportunity to put talents to use and working together towards something productive that ultimately help people. She thought about how underutilized the human resources of the world are, how we all long to help each other, how encouraging a culture of asking for help is necessary to give people the opportunity to help, and how much we could accomplish if we all were able to maximize the use of our talents and time to help one another. When she got back home to Switzerland, she began sketching out initial ideas for what would become HelpGoat.
It wasn’t until the family relocated back to the USA that Lisa was able to really focus on her ambitions for HelpGoat. While Lisa had experience working with information systems, she was not a developer and had limited programming experience. She figured she would write the specifications for HelpGoat and hire people to build it – but this would take finding money and investors. Lisa felt that avoiding early-stage debt would be key in keeping the business model simple. She didn’t want to be chasing funding in order to keep the business alive – so she thought…maybe she could just build it herself.
Four years later and thanks to youTube videos, stack exchange, the pandemic and later, ChatGPT – HelpGoat is live on the App store! Now Lisa’s focus has shifted to finding partners and building the HelpGoat community in order to make her vision finally become a reality.
